The recovery of plastics according to the forerunners of circular economy.
Caldara Plast’s mission is to:

  • reduce non-recoverable plastic waste to a minimum
  • promote the culture of using regenerated material, significantly reducing the use of virgin raw materials

Story

Caldara Plast is a family business that has been active since 1963 in the recovery, regeneration and trading of plastics sector. The founder Innocente Caldara (1940-2021) was a forerunner of the modern concept of circular economy. Today the business is successfully run by his sons Massimiliano, Attilio and Alessandro Caldara who over the years have acquired a deep knowledge of the sector.

ANALYSIS, RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT LABORATORY

Caldara Plast has an internal laboratory equipped with specific instrumentation, where specialised technicians constantly and directly check the incoming and outgoing products on site to guarantee high and constant quality standards over time.

Our internal laboratory allows us to provide products that perfectly meet customer requirements, with a guarantee of customisation, continuity and reliability and compliance with current regulations.

The internal laboratory deals with the complete characterisation of plastic materials through the determination of the physical, mechanical and chemical characteristics for each batch of material we process or produce.

All our products comply with the relevant European and international standards and in particular

RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT

Innovation understood as a regeneration action has led Caldara Plast to collaborate with some researchers and professors of the University of Pisa with the aim of focusing on product innovation.

The start-up «Planet Bioplastics», which we are part of, is an organisation in which real technical skills and theoretical skills meet in a constructive dialogue capable of creating innovation.

Caldara Plast makes its technicians available to customers who want to test the most suitable material for their products.

Since 2021, Caldara Plast has been the partner for the industrialisation of a new generation of PA6 studied by the start-up Velaworks, starting from the research carried out by the University of Padua – Department of Industrial Engineering. The patent pending formulation will allow you to obtain a halogen-free self-extinguishing material with excellent mechanical properties.

Tests that we carry out with our laboratory instruments on the secondary raw materials and on the plastic granules produced:

Colour control and reproduction

Impact Resistance (IZOD – CHARPY)

Fluidity (MFI – MVR)

Thermal resistance (VICAT- HDT) and fire resistance (WFI-UL94)

Gloss (GLOSS)

Traction and flexion

Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) and Infrared Spectroscopy (IR)

Gravimetric analysis  and ash/residue determinations

ADVANCED TECHNOLOGIES

Modern technologies allow Caldara Plast to obtain a regenerated product that is close to the first-choice material but with a much more limited environmental impact, both in terms of CO2 emissions into the atmosphere and in terms of the reduction of resources used.

Thanks to our decades of experience, today choosing a recycled material from Caldara Plast guarantees high quality and aesthetic performance.

Caldara Plast is firmly convinced that the use of regenerated plastics must increasingly be the first choice of companies that care about the environment.

CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

Social

Caldara Plast has always been close to the area in which it works and beyond. Among the most recent initiatives it has supported we would like to mention:

  • Sponsor of the Progetti del Cuore (“Projects of the Heart”) transport vehicle for the disabled or people in difficulty managed by the Associazione Tetto Fraterno di Erba (CO)
  • Support for the Fatebenefratelli Hospital in Erba (CO) for the COVID-19 emergency
  • Buying the panettone promoted by Emergency to help finance the association’s humanitarian projects
  • Buying the colomba (an Italian Easter cake) promoted by the Associazione Bianca Garavaglia to help finance activities for children with leukaemia.

ENVIRONMENTAL

Safeguarding the environment is one of Caldara Plast’s priorities. The company complies with all applicable environmental regulations and constantly monitors emissions related to production.

The transformation of plastic materials that we carry out in our Compound Office in Alzate Brianza (CO) involves some non-hazardous atmospheric emissions deriving from production – authorised by the Province of Como – which we constantly monitor with the support of authorised external bodies and third parties.

The analyses we carry out confirm that all our activities sampled in three distinct moments of the year are far below the legal limits, some so low that they cannot even be quantified.

For the purposes of transparency and full cooperation with the territory, Caldara Plast makes this data public by sending it both to the Municipality and by publishing it here.

Our commitment to give plastic a second life allows us to safeguard the environment and the territory, bringing economic, environmental and social benefits in the long term, for a world that is less and less polluted by plastic.
