PMMA (Polymethyl Methacrylate): an amorphous polymer belonging to the acrylic resin family.
Due to its transparency (even in large thicknesses) it can be considered as the ideal material to replace glass. This feature makes PMMA the most suitable choice in the lighting/lens sector (lighting and lenses) and items that want to imitate glass/crystal. It has a high rigidity which also gives it good mechanical and scratch resistance (especially at high thicknesses). It also exists in the high impact version (HI-PMMA) in which the addition of an elastomer leads the PMMA to have much higher impact strengths than the standard version. Furthermore, to satisfy lighting applications where there is a rise in temperature, there are also heat-resistant formulations with dedicated optical effects. It is inherently resistant to UV rays.
